Kristin's painting of a peach-colored rose captures the delicate layers of petals, their soft gradient from blush to warm peach, and the intricate play of light on the velvety surface. The brushwork emphasizes texture, with visible strokes that suggest both the fragility of the petals and the depth of the bloom’s center. The color palette leans toward gentle, luminous hues—peach, apricot, and ivory—often contrasted with deeper shadows in the folds and highlights along the edges to create a three-dimensional effect. This painting adopts a looser, impressionistic style that prioritizes mood, while evoking themes of beauty, transience, and the quiet elegance of nature.
The original is painted on wood panel. An unusual surface for Kristin to paint on, and accounts for the slightly looser brush stroke than her work on linen, as the paint must be laid upon the smoother surface with a different technique than on a toothier canvas where it "can be molded more like clay."
