This large oil painting captures the flower’s lush, layered petals in rich, luminous colors—deep pinks, soft whites, vibrant corals—set against a dark or muted background to emphasize its opulence. The brushwork ranges from smooth, to almost photographic realism. Visible paint strokes evoke the flower’s delicate textures and a play of light across its surfaces, creating a glow from inside.

Kristin photographed a bouquet of peonies, set in front of a rich background of black velvet and pink chiffon fabrics, expecting to paint a classical still life. However, she found herself drawn in, zooming in on the photos, until she discovered, once again, she only wanted to express the 'nucleus' of the flowers on canvas.
